"First off, tech support is in Russia and they work 9-5, M-F Russia time, which on the east coast of the USA is midnight to 8 am. So if you have a problem and need tech support, they will be happy to help you after midnight, once they reach you on their queue. For example, my store is not sending the download keys for egood purchases. I have 2 Xcart stores, both the latest versions (4.5.5). One works with egoods and one doesn't. It used to work fine until I upgraded and switched to XPayments for credit card processing (to be PCI compliant). Now one works and one doesn't. I submitted a trouble ticket last night. In the middle of the night they responded with "read the directions." I have a paid tech support account. I replied with a reiteration of the problem. They replied, "Thank you for the response. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay with a reply and possible inconvenience caused. The engineer working on your request will be available on Mar 25th at 09:00 and proceed as soon as possible then. Your patience is appreciated." Today is March 22nd. I have to wait at least 3 days before my paid in advance tech support will respond. I recently upgraded my 2 xcart stores to the latest versions after searching other shopping carts, considering switching. I have 8,000 customers and about 500 products and I decided that rather than switch I would upgrade instead. It has taken about 2 months, I have lots many thousands of dollars in business and a lot of customers. My sales are down to about 50% of what they were before upgrading, thanks to so much down time. And I still have problems."

"I've had X-Cart running for about 8 years a client's site (from version 4.1.3 in 2006 until 4.5.5 in 2013). In a nutshell, the version control and legacy issues make this a horrendous application to use. You'll be constantly battling bugs, errors, and anomolies and all the while the X-Cart team will want to charge you a fee for their errors. This has become layer upon layer of bandaids and workarounds and it shows. Yes, $150 - $400 is tough to beat on the surface. But the aggravation and external cost (time, money, Q&A on forums, etc.) will have you wondering why you bothered. In this day and age there are just far better tools, content management systems and services out there. On the merit of stability alone I'd look elsewhere."

"FirstData Linkpoint API set up in X-cart just stopped working, so all customers cards are being declined indiscriminately. Contacted X-cart Support (a.k.a. Qualiteam) a day ago, but no response nor schedule when they will look into my issues and boy, I have accumulated some issues over years that need to be repaired and need the cart to be upgraded to the latest version. According to my past experiences there are minor problems with X-cart, but support is expensive and extremely slow. Sometimes it takes the many days just to respond and weeks to take care of a problem. The reason could be because they are in RUSSIA and X-cart is made in RUSSIA, so their time zones are close to China and they are very slow to respond. Would you like to wait for days to receive a response and weeks for your issue to be resolved and then pay several hundred dollars for every small issue? Hmmm, I'm thinking of change of heart (cart)."

"Comes with all the bells and whistles. Installed and used for the first time. The install went smoothly without issue. A lot of time was used to cut special characters out of the import database code for product information. Also I spent a lot of time looking through the Help manuel\FAQ pages. These help pages are a huge help and typically point you in the right direction. Fits my needs to submit customer information via encryption or auto submit through a merchant."

"XCART should be embraced about how they support their customers. The software cost $159 and then they wanted to charge me $139 to ask a technical support question. The software is not user friendly and I'll never use it again for one of my clients."

"Been using X-cart for over 4 years and they have major issues with upgrading their software. If you buy X-cart dont expect to be able to upgrade to a new version later without a lot of headaches and probably having to pay them to do it for you for about $200-$300 each time. It seems like every upgrade they release does not work without you having to modify some code. Very frustrating and just doesn't seem right that they would make it this way. If you buy X-cart, expect to have problems upgrading it, everybody using X-cart will say the same thing. Other then this, I do like the shopping cart but wish I would have gone with something more reliable. Too late now that I have thousands of customers and orders and unable to transfer everything to a different cart (ie: passwords wont transfer). "

"ModPC as it sits today is the culmination of over 2 years of hard work, sweat and tears. Through trial and error we have waded through 4 different shopping cart solutions in this time and now that we have settled with X-Cart it appears we have finally achieved what we set out to do. If only we had gone with X-Cart at the start. Other systems were either too full of bugs and security holes, had shocking inventory control or had next to no decent 3rd party developers available to do the custom work required to manage our inventory. X-Carts support is excellent. The system itself is extremely well finished. There's no feature bloat to complicate things and any feature you do not require can simply be turned of never to be seen again. After all our experiences with other systems 3rd party developers we can also confidently say that X-Cart has by far the most professional 3rd party modules, support and technical expertise. "Ladies and gentlemen, xcart has been one of our most profitable assets in our business for the past 5 yrs. If you are not a tech person, there are many solutions that will get your store up and running faster, but if you invest the time in learning xcart, it will pay you back for years, literally. As you grow your shop, eventually your shop will disappoint you, because there will be a function your shop will not perform. You eventually will find yourself with a tough decision to make; scrap your shop and look for another shopping cart software solution, or settle with an inferior product and wait for it's developers to one day make their cart support the function. With xcart that will never happen. Xcart is so advanced new versions offer so many new functions all which increase sales, but also the developers behind this wonderful product are always ready to make custom modifications to your cart for a fraction of what normal developers charge. I can give you guys so many real life instances where this product always was the smarter decision. I really believe in xcart and the team behind it. Two thumbs up and much more..."

"Just had several components installed consecutively during my recent cart upgrade. Had a major upgrade for x-cart, which went well and ahead of the schedule that had been committed to me. More importantly, had the X-Cart Back Office module installed followed by the Facebook Tab and Janrain modules - reason for this review. I cannot say enough good things in regards to the Qualiteam Support in installing these modules. The guidance provided to me for the task I had to perform were well documented and relatively simple to follow. I had been working in Facebook trying to learn how best to set up and because of this I had issues in the install. The patience, attention and guidance from the Qualiteam was fantastic, so much they I was even able to get Facebook to fix a Username issue I was having and could not get Facebook to respond to and help get resolved during the previous 2 plus month. Then because of the Facebook issues, the Janrain install had some issues due to earlier Facebook issues. The Qualiteam support team was even able to help resolve Janrain issues. Result, I have an upgraded and function site that would not have occurred without the support above and beyond from the Qualiteam. The patience. attention to follow up and detail from the Qualiteam is best I have worked with."

"We use this shopping cart for a few years starting from version 3.xx, now we installed 4.4.2 on the website www.replicawow.com Why we chose this shopping cart? It obviously is feature rich, including built-in and extra modules. Another one big advantage is that you can easily modify its relatively simple and unsophisticated code. We totally paid about $1000 for the x-cart gold + full set of extra modules and extensions. What do I think about it? The shopping cart is built by the vendor for whatever purpose but only not for use in production environment. It is excellent software to win prizes on exhibitions. But when you start using it requires a lot of effort to meet some particular needs. Some features are absolutely not suitable for commercial use. When you refer that to vendor as a bug they answer "That's not a bug. That's the way it supposed to work" (by the way you will be charged for such support questions or suggestions). As for the latest version 4.4.2 - many old bugs were fixed, but hundreds new bugs appeared in the software. We installed it again hoping that it was improved. Yes, there are some improvements. But we spent almost a month for minor bugfixing and we still working. Actually it is okay if you have a few tens products and you use only basic features of shopping cart. But if you try to use some extended facilities of x-cart (that's why it was purchased) you will always in need to dig the code to fix something. Fortunately we can afford to do it by ourselves. Now we are seriously thinking to switch to another software. Another one problem we met is lack of big variety of templates and themes offered by the vendor or third parties. "Installation service. I want to thank you for this excellent service. i run a very small business in Ireland, and i want to diversify into something else, so i decided to setup an online shop. Not realising how difficult it was, i had to learn quickly. Yury, was extremely helpful installing x-cart for me, even though i had a number of questions relating to it. "We purchased X-cart software back in 2007. The cart is basically very solid and bug-free. If bugs do occur due to customization, for example, then they are fixed by X-cart engineers free of charge. Since 2007 we worked very closely with X-cart programmers to customize the cart for our needs. We found X-cart project managers and programmers to be very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Before customization work starts project manager who is an experienced programmer himself/herself understands all aspects of the customization, thinks how to solve your problem in the most efficient way, and quotes you the price of the modification. All this is done free of charge, you only pay programmer's hourly rate according to the quote. Overall, we are very happy with our long-term relationship with X-cart. We now manage almost 50,000 products and, with minor optimizations done, X-cart handles such a large product database perfectly. X-cart solution will work fine not only for a small online retailer, it is the perfect solution for an ambitious online retailer as well."

"We had a regular error on one of our customer's X-Cart accounts, whereby, the account would always accept an update by switching the customer status back from "Trade" to "Retail" in error. I raised a service request, explained the problem and posted all the necessary access details within the secure service area. The error was traced and fixed in a very short time and e-mail notification delivered by return. This response is so different from such a lot of the IT responses that we receive and it's a pleasure to be given such excellent service. "The very best shopping cart software out there in my opinion, especially for international stores. The support is the best. I had to integrate a local bank merchant account with the X-Cart and they did so professionally and expertly and my bank was impressed with thier programming skills. I will never change from x-cart. The only challenge is the php programming. This is not necessary to use X-Cart, but if you want custom graphics etc, it might take a little help from thier support, which is superb."

"I chose x-cart for certain features (extra images and custom fields) and thought it was an absolute bargain at around $150. X-Cart has been as solid as a rock for me, the development team is stable and active and has given away a pile of upgrades that I would have been happy to pay for. Things I would like to see improved are easier template modification (modifying css\php\smarty is beyond me), cms integration and smoother upgrade process (X-cart is fairly easy to upgrade but upgrading all the third-party mods is a pain). Apparently all this is being addressed in Version 5 - can't wait."

"XCart software is without doubt the best shopping cart software available. I have developed over 50 ecommerce websites in the last 6 years and for the last 8 sites have all been built using xcart software and that will now continue. Product is robust and well supported with a very skilled support team. Xcart can work great straight out of the box and many modifications can be done from admin cp but if you do not understand php or javascript then dont expect to be integrating your own designs easily. Smarty (tpl) framework is used and is fantastic, even if you have never used smarty if you know php you will quickly get to grips with it. Those leaving negative feedback on the product or service are people who like to think of themselves as web developers when in actual fact they are more acurately bedroom wannabe web developers and leaving negative feedback because your knowledge is not sufficient to do what you need is not fair to such a good product. I recently encountered a problem with order transactions in chrome which xcart support resolved for me, this was actually a bug with chrome and the xcart supportteam went over and above to find a resolve and fix this problem for me. Would recommend this open source software to anyone who wants the best ecommerce store available."

"I originally purchased x-cart 4.3.0. installed it myself which was relatively easy if you follow the instructions. Being the initial release of this series, 4.3.x there were a few bugs etc. The x-cart support have always been extremely good, and very quick to respond to any support ticket. i have since upgraded to 4.3.2 which is very stable. an excellant product. my companies web site / shopping cart is one of the most important marketing tools that the company has so it is very important that i can receive quick support when needed. so far xcart support has lived up to this. xcart also has a very informative forum which has many contributors. a great deal of learning can be had here. there are also some very reliable "xcart mod" companies that you can buy well priced additions. i have rated xcart 4-good and not 5-excellant for one one reason and that is i believe version 4.3.x series lacked some fundamental features: html sitemap, xml sitemap generator, force select box on accept t & c's on checkout, and a few others. xcart 4.4.0 has all these features so they are moving in the right direction. the only problem is that to upgrade from 4.3.2 to 4.4 means a complete re-do of the xcart skin although the database can be upgraded. for any new buyers, 4.3.2 is a good product but you may need to buy some custom mods to add-on, which are not expensive,,,or buy 4.4.0 although maybe wait until 4.4.1. overall i am very happy with the xcart product and support. "

"It was a difficult choice picking a cart - so many decisions on features (does each cart choice have the features we need or think we will need in the near future), hosting or setting up our own server, and I really didn't want to change my ISP just to host the cart extension to our business. My trial of the evaluation of X-cart surely built my confidence to purchase it. First I was impressed with the lengthy and accuracte answers to my feature questions - we could do things like set various levels of wholesale pricing for clients based on volume and membership level, etc all running on one cart license. I went to my ISP to see if they conformed to the set of requirements and they didn't (or at least so I thought)as they were using Zeus server software so I concluded I either needed to host myself (probably not a good idea on a low cost DSL line) or consider jumping to a second hosting site for the cart functionality, or move ISPs (which I didn't want to do because my ISP is local and support has been great there). I was in communication with X-cart support again and that is when I got even more impressed. Support said that just because server software isn't listed in their requirements, just means they haven't tested with it. I should at least test with it before looking elsewhere for additional or new hosting. Wow were they right - it worked nearly like a charm. The only issue was a weird problem where shared SSL wasn't working for the configuration of my ISP. Between X-cart support and my ISP support, it took a while to debug (due to the significant time zone difference), but switching to dedicated SSL solved it - went with Comodo from X-cart because of the value. I am one happy camper with 4.4 - will hire X-cart to do a few minor features. Wow factor: professional support, mature product, value! Glad I bought it with support. They are very reasonable and don't ding you all the time. If you are in North America - answers back by next morning."

"I own a Web Design/Development firm that operates several eCommerce carts for a number of customers. In May 2009 we converted a customer to XCART, based on a feature comparison and favorable price and competitive reviews. During the last 10 months, we also requested 3 custom modifications to the XCcart functionality to meet our customer’s unique requirements. I have managed software engineers for 23 years, and have a strong sense of whether an organization has a solid process in place including QA, Technical Support and warranty. I want to highlight what a professional organization the QualTeam runs. I always get timely responses within 24 hours (allowing for the time difference) from Technical Support, Sales and the Development Engineers. Everyone has always been extremely helpful and professional. Their status and reporting system provided immediate notifications as the project moved through its various phases. All customer modifications were available for me to test on their QA Server prior to implementation. Projects were delivered on time and I felt the cost was fair and reasonable. In addition we received a six months warranty on their work. They’ve earned an Excellent rating. "

"X-Cart is our e-commerce engine of choice. Out of the box it is great. But even better yet: customization capabilities are incredible; support by the Qualiteam engineers is fantastic. It is one of the best values available today and since they continue to develop it, it will be a great choice for tomorrow as well. Powerful, flexible, world class. We love it. It does take some time to set up properly - make sure you read the manuals - and if you get stuck, online support is readily available - both thru the community forum and paid support."

"Have no idea what others talk about here. Yes, X-Cart have had security issues, but any other software has them (I'll never believe that there is no software without bugs). X-Cart makers release patches in a few moments after they are informed about an issue. It's important to know that software maker doesn't hide information about their problems and inform their clients in time just like X-Cart does. X-Cart may seem complicated at the very 1st glance, but after you spend a couple of days working with it everything becomes familiar and easy. Though you need to have some HTML basics in order to change its templates. "

"The tech support is in Germany and is slow to solve actual issues / problems. For the amount of money they charge, especially for add-ons and upgrades there are a LOT of bugs. I have reported the bugs repeatedly and have yet to see any actual solutions. Unless you know how to code this software is very difficult to customize yourself. These are just a few of reasons why I am here, to research a new cart."

"We have used several carts including a custom built unit about 10-years ago, with X-Cart (currently on version 4.0.29)being our latest and so far it has done nothing but fail at what it is supposed to do--- work. I place blame in the core of its design and fortunately my business has survived, not grown, but survived. Images disappear, product disappears, shipping has never worked, orders are lost, and options occasionally appear out of the blue that were never selected. Secure checkout? Never worked. Our ratings have dropped through the floor and have continued to sink. Try and search for something, it does not work. I have worked with several X-Cart specialist and to date no answers have been brought forth as to why it screws up. It is also really sad when you have to send yourself an order and find out that it might work. Not acceptable. The admin side is messy and it usually takes way too much time to figure out where you have changed settings before; besides that the terminology is not acceptable. If you also hit the right sequence you can switch you HTML generated catalog back to PHP and lose product exposure in the middle of it all. I have to admit that I have seen working versions of it, but even those that work I have been able to exploit errors within minutes. I am a business person that wants to run my business, I am NOT a programmer in any shape or form, but I have to say that to get anything right in X-Cart, so far it cannot be done. I can agree that if you understand programming (sorry for the generality) that it can be better than it is, but for someone like myself I like to use and modify my cart for the betterment of the business, not babysit it as I have done so far for the past three years. And as others have stated, that is why I am here, to give my input and also to "shop" for a new cart that I can grow with and actually use. Beware of X-Cart as it is fairly inexpensive to purchase, do the right thing--- pick another cart."

"Very versatile cart. Perfectly usable right out of the box, but can be customized to your heart's content. It takes some knowledge of HTML and CSS to customize it, and you need to do some research, but their user forums are a great help. You can usually find an answer there. Lots of third-party add-ons and mods available, as this is a popular cart. When a new version is released, it's not certified as stable right away, but you can always use the most recent stable version, which is available as well. At least they're honest in telling you that. Support is adequate, but sometimes a bit slow. Probably my only reason for not giving it 5 stars. Documentation is not the greatest either. I find the forums to be more help. If you're inexperienced and need a lot of handholding, this cart might not be right for you, but if you are willing to dig into it and do some research, this is the best cart for the price."

"Xcart is full of security holes for hackers to gain access to the site. I was hacked through gaps in the cart software. I have had about 20 tickets and many messages back and forth on each ticket to resolve problems when someone got in and changed things. Language difference (english / russian)play a part but when i got hacked and was shown evidence by my hosting company of security gaps. I have spent too much time trying to keep the site up and running when i should be running my business which is why i am here looking for another cart system. I have the site running now but have noticed unusual traffic and URLs in my users online feature which are not part of my cart and has been confirmed to be probing by a hacker I suspect my site will be down in a day or two again "

"I was disappointed in this shopping cart. We paid extra for the team to convert our existing website design into x-cart and just communicating with them was difficult. They are based in Russia, which meant I had to stay up quite late to get answers to my e-mail and be able to respond. As a result, the issues seemed to drag on and on. I opted for one of their add ons, Fancy Categories and it made the website load so slowly, it was really awful. We ditched that and experienced faster loading pages. In an attempt to customize wording myself, I was stunned at how deep I had to dig in their foreign Smarty Templates. I have since seen Smarty used beautifully, but not in x-cart. In short, I was out over $1500 and we ditched the cart after only a few months."

"I too have had nothing but nightmares with this Xcart i paid $200.00 to get, it has never worked, my site kept losing it's images, i had to write to the owners who i paid for it, got accused of tampering with the picture locations, finally got that fixed, now i cannot get it to proccess any paypal payments even though paypal is fully intergrated into my web site. So i must agree that Xcart cannot be the best there is. And this is so wierd the cart will not allow you to check out for anything under £10.00"

"I was very disappointed with my XCart experience. Support is poor (there is a 10-hour time difference). Of the issues I submitted, I resolved them before they did. One issue was left open, but they had been reviewing it for a week. I imported about 50 products and then backed up the database using DB Backup. The next import crashed the database, and DB Restore did not work. After this happened twice, and they failed to resolve the issue either time, I decided to switch to something else. Now I'm being hassled about my refund request."

"X-Cart is EXTREMELY powerful and a fantastic e-commerce platform, but there is a rather steep learning curve in order to harness that power. Contrary to what some other reviewers have said, the 'stable' version is quite stable, and bug-free. X-Cart does not make their money by having people pay for bug fixes. That is absurd. The newest version is indeed buggy, but it is not deemed 'stable' by X-Cart at this time either. We have used this system for over 50 clients' sites, and all of them have noted increased sales, traffic and easier management of their store since switching from 'other' cart systems such as OSCommerce, Yahoo stores, etc. We now use it as our only E-Commerce platform. With the abundance of third-party add-ons available and a great user forum you really can't find a better system, especially considering the price!"

"Basically, X-cart advertises the feature of selling non-tangible egoods, but it does not mention that the merchant's products are not secure, and vulnerable to theft. I find this befuddling. I should have paid closer attention to the reviews and am now inclined to post my own. It seems x-cart is a very nice product but based on support replies, the system is in place to make its dollar by charging inflated support options for unspoken and major flaws in the software. I don't mean to sound rude, but it truly makes no sense to offer an option that is unsafe and could eventually ruin an online merchant's business. I'll not have my products plastered across warez sites due to a faulty system and I'll definitely not be paying to modify it to work after already paying $200...so in essence, I'll not be using your product on a live shop until the issue is resolved."

"I used x-cart, but didn't find it to be that solid. They even admit there software is buggy and has problems until the release a "stable" version. How dumb is that. I shouldn't paying for unstable versions. They offer no phone support so forget about that. There are a lot of other good quality carts out there so stay away from this one."

"I've been using X-Cart since version 1.3 as well as RRF's F-Cart. At the same time I was trying OSCommerce (was TEP The exchange project then) and others to find a cart that worked well and wasn't too terribly difficult to modify for my clients needs. After familiarizing myself enough with X-Cart I then realized the potential X-Cart had/has and quickly started developing 3rd party mods and templates to help push X-Cart to others as I believe it is an ideal e-commerce solution, it has a few flaws but what software package doesn't? However the good points defiantly out weigh the bad. X-Cart user forums are highly active and is growing daily."

"X-Cart is definitely one of the most comprehensive carts out there. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the skinning. The default skin is pretty good, but if you want to make major changes, you'll need to have your wits about you."

Ecommerce Spot Comments An extremely comprehensive package. It now includes CSS based templates, and flexible shipping options. Recently updated to include AJAX, one of the most established carts on the market isn't resting on it's laurels. It's available in a number of bundles at different prices.
