"Worst cart system I've ever used. Easy to install, easy to set up, hard to do anything after that. Many features are broken or have bugs that are very easy to replicate. The community powering the software doesn't seem too bright. I'm in the process now of trying to get this client to go with a custom-built solution instead. I have never left a bad review on software in my entire lifetime, usually I just don't use it again, but I am hoping that people realize that it's truly that bad. I made a joke earlier that an eight year old probably programmed this; another reviewer said a college freshman. Maybe somewhere in between?"

"I must say the bad reviews are a bit confusing...I have built two sites using prestashop(1.5.4.1 & 1.4.9) and both shops had some minor bugs but most often it was due to my absolute lack of understanding. It has cost me next to nothing to have very trendy looking functional sites. My only criticism is site load times, which initially were a bit long..but after troubleshooting my sites and removing unnecessary modules it was in the three second range. I am always surprised with the complete selfishness of a business owner looking to make money with your business making judgement of the prestashop community...they want to make money just like you!!! I repeat I have paid next to nothing with two fully functional sites...uhhh are you prepared to give away all of your wares for free?!! If you went into business expecting not to make any investment in your business ...my suggestion is to cash in now!!! Good luck to the haters...Prestashop is the BOMB...Thanks Prestashop for your free and paid themes and modules."

"I deeply regret choosing Prestashop. I decided to use this eCommerce software due to many options in the back-office. This software has many bugs (even considered "stable"), no support and the modules and themes are very pricey. I was shocked at how expensive Prestashop addons were. I figured if they were so expensive it may be worth it. I tested the BO and decided this was the one, bought a $130 theme and regret every bit of it. I have a few issues on my website, I've reached out to Prestashop's help center (not once, not twice, but three times) but no answer, I opened up a question on Prestashop's forum but no replies. I really do not recommend using this eCommerce software, as it may be considered "free" with the price of the modules and themes you are better off buying a stable eCommerce software that has reasonable priced addons and support. I agree with others, test and play around with the shop before committing to this software."

"My recommendation would be to setup your entire site the way you want it with a free theme before buying anything. I did not do this and now I am sorry. I gave the site a "basic" walk through and decided I liked it because of it ease of use. I then went out and bought themes and had graphics made for the theme. Now that I am doing a "deeper" inspection while building and configuring the site I am finding all kinds of bugs and quirks that are wasting tons of time. The shipping and tax module seems to have a history of problems. There is a ticket that has been open for over a month with one of the issues that I am having. The only response from tech support was telling the guy not to open more tickets with the same issue. He opened another ticket because no one from tech support had responded to his ticket for over a month. On the basic shopping cart summary page the tax and shipping modules aren't updating correctly based on configured tax rules. The tax wasn't showing up on the final checkout page, however, I was able to find a fix for this. I also ran into a number of caching issues where modules weren't be reloaded even with the caching system turned off. Decided to input new company logo pictures through the GUI, but later had to replace the files manually because PS wouldn't overwrite them automatically. After a couple of days trying to get a basic site up and running I am already considering another product due to the basic functionally not working correctly."

I don't know who they talked to but the US office is actually really put together. I've talked to them multiple times. I love the forum, it use to be a big mess. Now there are many people who help. It's free and when created carefully, really works. Yes, I paid for a template with installation and I also pay for support from a Web Developer I trust, only when I need it. Overall, my store is successful enough for me to keep going. "

I contacted them with the chat. In half an hour the guy that adviced me explained everything I had to change. And now it works pretty well. The BO is much richer than Magento. I'm at the beginning but I can feel it is going to be much easier ! "

"Shopping cart is buggy. Templates for PS are buggy, and Store Manager by eMagicOne was buggy, but is better now (as far as I can tell). This cart although their site looks good, is not for the faint of heart. I am an intermediate coder, and am frustrated again and again by problems that 'pop up'. Spent plenty of bucks too on templates and addons, but my impression is the coders can't play nice together. I have a production site going and is working fine, but I fear updating or amending/improving the site because something may break. Oh well, live and learn. My suggestion is go ahead and use it if you've got some tech savvy under your belt.. meanwhile, I'm still looking for some better shopping cart options. "

"Ignoring hundreds of bugs reported for the version 1.4x series of Prestashop ( see: forge.prestashop.com ) the developers branched off to develop "version 1.5 with MULTIshop" leaving shopowners hanging, dealing with the remaining unfixed bugs. Who asked for a "multishop" version? Not me. I'm really disappointed and more than a bit frustrated with the unfixed bugs and, no way, we won't be attempting to "upgrade" our shop to "version 1.5". Too many nightmare stories of people winding up with broken shops after attempting to upgrade. Oh, but when upgrade breaks your shop, you can PAY to have the developers investigate the problem. This past year has just been a sad, ridiculous, turn of events for a cart app that seemed like it had decent potential."

" This shopping cart is good. However, the customer service is the best I've seen. I've used Magento, OpenCart, Shopify. All of them cost money for less features that PrestaShop has. All this talk about bad Customer Service has not been my case at all. When I call the US office at 888-947-6543 I always get a response. The one time I didn't I called back in 5 minutes and was answered. Benjamin is always there to answer the phone and is very patient. Yes, sometimes the shopping cart can get tricky! but that's with any shopping cart. Listen to me, if you are choosing a E-commerce software you NEED good support. PrestaShop offers the very best FREE Support and even better paid support, (which I have.) It is free, but to have a great template you will need to pay. PrestaShop is so cool, I can't enough about it. After so many bogus shopping carts that take commission, have a monthly fee, with LESS features. It makes no sense. TRUST me guys. Leave the seemingly "easy" solutions like volusion, shopify, magento, open and os cart, and move to PrestaShop. It has worked for me and two of my other friends. By the way. HOSTING is such a huge player in how successful you are online. PrestaShop's team was able to actually help me sign up for BlueHost and they actually installed and optimized PrestaShop for me in less than 30 minutes. So beautiful. Choose PrestaShop!"

I would consider myself an advanced web developer and all I can say is that everything that prestashop puts out is complete garbage! Their website looks wonderful and FULL of modules and great themes, but you will notice if you look closely that all of the modules and themes are NOT UP TO DATE! they are all old themes that no one updates, which is why they are filled with glitches! Cons: - most modules are commercial and many don't work as advertised - there's no way to look for an order based on a company name (and various other attributes) - there's no tax / VAT overview - guest accounts are seriously broken - virtual products are limited to one single file per purchase - one cannot produce an invoice if the customer has not payed yet (so how can he pay without invoice?) - it forces customers to enter phone numbers (totally useless for most merchants, cannot be disabled easily) Pros (compared to Zencart we've used before): - Good statistics - Looks better out of the box"

By lousy I mean that you can't use the models even for basic CRUD operations. Modules are models/controllers mixed together, that usually echo raw HTML... "Prestashop works. It installs, somehow manages to handle and update a MySQL database and generate views that look like a store to your users. That's about it. The real problem with prestashop is that it's a verly poorly coded amalgamation of uneducated hacks. For instance, the latest version needs 128MB of allocated memory to display the list of modules in the admin, the 2checkout module has a bunch of unintialized variables in it, and also an untested and broken currency change routine. Bad development practices (they obviously don't test anything beyong... it loads!) coupled with generaly lame coding skills. Even the 'certified' module they sell for 200USD are obviously shameless broken copy-pastas from other broken modules. This software is a shame. It's not about personal experience, really. Any responsible admin should remove it from their server asap. Cheers."

I've seen a few complaints about PrestaShop's support policies, but this is, open-source software, people! The basic version is heavily tested, but if I made custom changes to my own code that caused issues on my site, I wouldn't be expecting them to fix my personal mistakes for free. If you want free support, you can use their forums (I get almost all of my questions answered there), but I think some people get a little too selfish about a free product. I've used several different e-commerce options in the past, and there's a reason why these guys are growing faster than any of their competitors. Their software WORKS, plain and simple."

"While I like Prestashop, I feel like it’s intentionally incomplete. With other true open source carts, their is a community who offers all kinds of plug-ins. Most of which are free, or at least very reasonably priced. I just don’t get that same vibe with Prestashop. To me, it feels like a gimmick. It doesn’t feel like an open source community at all. It feels like a French company who offers the base product for free (calling it open source) but then charges an arm and a leg to get it working and looking the way you want. It seems all the module writers are hanging around to cash-in vs help out the “community” thus making this whole “open source” concept null and void. It feels like a very gimmicky business plan. Prestashop's overpriced modules really make this feel like a “bait-n-switch” compared to true open-source communities. While the base cart is "free" to get it working, is far from it: $140.00 - Average template cost. Only 1 template ships with base package. $329 for the Sage or Authorize.net plug-in gateway to accept Visa Mastercard $75 for FexEx module through an outside developer. $132 for UPS mdule $132 for USPS module $99 for Free shipping module $53 Twitter Plugin $40 FaceBook Plugin $197 for SEO plug-in So the actual cost is $1,097 + I have to install the software and every module myself and with that cost comes NO free tech support! Still sound like a "free open source" cart to you? "

Prestashop Shopping Cart is another of the up and coming free solutions. It's free, although many of the modules cost money - and aren't cheap. For example, the SEO module, which really should be out of the box, costs 150 Euros. Add on 2 or 3 modules and you suddenly have a shopping cart which is far from free.

The default skin certainly needs a lot of work, and the backend seems a bit buggy. While plenty of work is going on, you might want to wait a version for those who don't enjoy tampering with code themselves.
