"We bought this app a year ago, to use it to build a mobile site to run along side our existing site. It has been a year of hard work and frustration with little to show at the end. True, we have a mobile site running, but it's not converting well. The app appears to be have been converted wholesale from a poorly written Classic ASP app. It has classes that are tens of thousands of lines long, that spit out both HTML and business rules (there is no separation of these functions) There is no data layer - each part of the app spews forth dynamic SQL as it feel necessary. Even though there are functions to parametrise SQL and stored procedures, this is rarely used, so (for the DBA's out there) your SQL Procedure cache gets stuffed full of similar SQL, with little reuse. A previous lead developer also believed foreign keys were evil, so there are barely none. There justification for this? 'No weird relations ships to worry about!' No, the relationships are still there, it just means they aren't clear, so if you want to delete a record (as a developer), you have to hunt for all the table that might reference it, or end up with loads of orphaned records. There are huge inconsistencies in other areas too. For example, discount vouchers are called Promotions in the database, DiscountCodes in the ASPX pages where you enter them, and Coupons in the AppConfig where you turn them on. Some tables have the primary key named after the table (ProductID in the Product table) but other are different (VariantID in the ProductVariant table or just Id in the Promotions table). Also Singualr and plural naming of tables Bugs. Don't get me started. One we found caused the checkout to fail after the customer had been charged but before the order was complete. This customer paid 6 times for an order that would never be completed. And all because of the way a product had been configured. I could go on, but I've run out of text. Each time I touch this app, I die a little inside. DON"
