"Long time storefront user who was very concerned with the release of version 9 and all the issues that came with it. Since the acquisition, by Vortx, they have been all over customer service and fixing the issues they have inherited. There was a newly released patch that has fixed most of the issues stated from the prior threads. And the support is now outstanding. I recommend no one base their experience based on past posts, the new owners are great and the platform is again top notch."

"I normally don't write reviews, but seeing some negative ones on here, I had to speak up. I had VERY FEW set up issues with version 8. We have used Server Intelligence and Rackspace. It worked virtually perfectly out of the box. We made some minor tweaks to the layout, but did not spend the time or money on a skin yet. We've been using it for a year and made over a million dollars with it. There are features I would like to have, but that's the case with almost any off the shelf software product. I highly recommend this product, BUT I WOULD BUY VERSION 8, NOT VERSION 9. Version 9 was rushed and is buggy. "

"The products this company produces are riddled with poor quality. Go search on stackoverflow.com to see what credible developers think about the product. When we say 'buggy' we mean critical features just. don't. work. Ask them about it and you'll be ignored. Ask on their forum and it will be ignored. Or deleted. Repeat: More often than not you will be completely ignored by their support staff. The code is a ghastly, muddled affair with no convention or standard in mind. These people are still living in the mid-to-late 90s when IT was full of unscrupulous chiselers. And, apparently, when people buried UI code deep in business logic classes (who does this??). They utilize some of the more advanced features of ASP.NET, but completely forget about the fundamentals of good coding. Their code doesn't work, they don't test, the architecture is a nightmare of incompetence. Making simple modifications becomes a chore (I've made many). It's basically a developer nightmare. Finally, their management is governed by childish tactics, including the famous ignoring sprinkled with outright fabrications (note: if you aren't actually DONE with code you're working on, don't sell it to consumers. Geez.). Version 9 is a pile of slow junk with many bugs. The MultiStore application they advertise on their front page? It doesn't work! For anyone. They are selling software that doesn't operate at the most basic level! Honestly, I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't experienced it myself. You've been warned. Their days are numbered. There are too many people who take the craft seriously. Like so many others, I wish I could go back in time. I would've made a U-turn. "

"Unless you can afford to hire an IT department to get this working, DO NOT BUY this software. It looks like a great deal, ~$1300.00 for a fully functional cart, however you will need to pay around $5,000 to actually get it working and couple of thousand for skin. Getting it installed is a horrible experience, the hosting company installed it and still there were issues, not small issues but getting major parts to work is proving impossible. This software is sold "as-is", you are stuck with it. If they offered a 30 day guarantee I would ask for money back in a second. I can see that there is a lot of functionality, this cart shows promise but it is horribly buggy and it seems like everytime you log in there is an error. "

"If you are wanting to develop on the .net platform, this cart can provide you with a good solid base. While its not the easiest cart to develop for it was one of the most SECURE and is not something that will get hacked like so many of the PHP carts out there. We have been developing for sotrefront for almost 10 years, version 9 is most flexiable, here are some of our sample site: http://www.aspdotnetstorefront.com/p-418-simrun.aspx so you can make very nice sites with it. Best results are with a developer, this is not a beginers cart, but with the right developer you can achieve a very power mid-market/enterprise level product."

The software uses old, old ASP technology and all they want to do is make money, they don't care about the reputation of the product or the business. Case in point, PCI rules changed, and made this cart non-compliant, meaning you can't use this cart and take credit cards, but rather create a simple patch they instead told me to upgrade at a $1,000 cost. They don't care about customers, they don't care about the product. These people are nothing more than bait and switch shady code salespeople. DO NOT get this cart ... DO NOT."

This is not a cart for the novice or even intermediate user, to get this cart working and looking like a professional storefront will require a professional eCommerce company and thousands of dollars. The company was sold to a small development firm that has questionable business tactics. You can barely look at this cart before you have to pay for additional "anything", you want a mobile site, monthly charge, premium support, additional charge, skins, additional, upgrades or even updates, additional. The price is ~$800 but it would cost at least ~$4,000 to get it working correctly and look decent ... but then come the additional monthly charges. Stay away from this cart and go with a professional cart from a national development firm."

"Does not use latest .NET 4.0. Procedural language implementation. Integrated sql queries in code. Hard coded values. Basically old school development that is hard to integrate with newer technologies and unit testing. The biggest disadvantage is the need to build the application, which is slow, or debug/run the application to view changes when a simple unit test would have sufficed. The time saved in the purchase is negated by the otherwise slow development time due to the use of outdated techniques. Strongly advise against if you want your business technology to stay relevant in 5 years. The technology used, and thus the maintenance needed, is already outdated by at least 2 years."

"Performing a Google search for aspdotnetstorefront search bug, you'll see why this product isn't ready for prime time. A serious bug exists that affects a lot of ADNSF owners. If you, the store owner, have a hypen or other character in the name of the product, part number or sku, the aspdotnetstorefront search feature will tell you to enter three or more characters to search, even if you entered 10 characters. This search bug has been around for some time and staff at vortex mentioned someday they would have a fix for this bug, but as of more than a year later - nothing. Which means if you buy the product, your customers may not be able to find your products to buy if they type the wrong characters, which means the aspdotnetstorefront shopping cart software could cost you money everyday of every year until fixed."

I am not sure where some of the people here are getting their information, but I can definitely say that it is a very extensive and stable platform. The list of capabilities is huge and when comparing it to like carts or open source carts, it blows them out of the water. I spent a long time evaluating many of the different carts out there and chose this one and have not had to look back. Very SEO friendly, Easy to use and configure for any team of non-techies, and the best part is that it has built in marketing capabilities that can be turned on by merely checking a checkbox or changing a simple parameter. "I'm not sure that anyone who is giving negative reviews actually took the time to research available carts on the market, including this one properly. We have gone through several carts in trading online for 11 years now and have found this cart to be the best for us over the last 5 years – the template model works very well, the xml packages are simply a brilliant idea as we don’t have to rely on source code mods to change product or text layout. Yes, some of the css needs amending to suit your brand look etc, but you would want to do this anyhow !?! One or two bugs are inevitable, but we’ve found a good response when needed and a fix follows shortly. Lots of coders/partners available for specific mods and we’ve found changes inexpensive. If you think that you can take any cart out of the box without ANY changes, then you’re mistaken….in that case go for a SaaS, but expect to pay more over the longer term and rely on the developer to make changes to the core !! We’re just now building our 3rd iteration of our site and expect to launch an awesome experience for our customers in the next month – integrated into this cart will be modal popups for feefo.com feedback, twitter widgets, ajax cart, integrated blog, forum, auto coupons emailed automatically at set times, dynamic ajax search results like asos.com and back end barcodes printed onto receipts for auto shipping notification and payment collection triggers. We are not developers – but we’ve read the manuals a lot and got loads of free help in the forums. Hope this helps"

"Horrible cart, even before it was taken over it was fairly horrible, there's little documentation, the code is really bad and to very simple things you have to buy the source code. The price was the initial attraction and it seemed there were numerous ways to configure the cart, which there are. But if anything goes wrong or if you have a question, there is little support from the forums and it takes 2 - 3 weeks to get an answer from support. After it was taken over the new company is stopping development when it feels the bugs are removed from the system and are charging fees to add on any extras, these fees are generally around $200 - $500 for one add-on. These add-ons are generally found in other carts for free. Unless you have massive amounts of patience and know ASP, XML, CSS, HTML and SQL or you want to pay a developer ( I was quoted $500 to change the logo, no seriously) around $5,000 - $15,000 to change the look and get it to work don't bother. There are too many other carts, SaaS or not that are much better. I only wished I knew this before buying, what I thought was a bargain, of a cart."

"I'm not sure these reviews are very accurate on the people that have had a difficult time. We started with 8.0.1.2 and have been running it for about 2 years. I would agree with the documentation, it is very lacking, it gives you enough information to hang yourself, but not the nuts and bolts with details. They expect you to use a developer, to do it on your own is a massive undertaking of learning. I have however been able to find answers by forums and trial and error. We EXTENSIVELY use the WSI for mainframe communication and that is very stable, yet massively lacking in manuals. Our primary reason in going with ADNSF was that they seemed to be able to handle our database size requirements at a fair price, and the website is pretty fast with massive searches going on behind the edge servers. We have over 600,000 items in the store and a huge search tree. We've had to purchase several add-ons for improving search (critical for us) and improving the checkout phase. The tech support has been a frustration. Sometimes they were wicked fast, other times they didn't answer at all and I was charged for a support when I found the problem, I don't use it anymore. The forums have been a massive help, the tech support people are very active there and my problems are usually not unique. I would say that most of the crap people feel is because they are in over their heads and the help is very lacking. It's a complicated piece of software and has a huge learning curve. I cannot speak to the state after being purchased by Vortex. We are now moving to V9 after waiting a year for the bugs to be removed. I guess we'll find out soon."

I cannot emphasize how bad their customer support is, probably the worst I've experienced from any software company in the past 20 years. Their code is horribly, horribly coded and structured. Any competent programmer will laugh (and then cry...) at the code structure. Forget about proper comments in the good...your on your own. Never mind up to date, well written manuals. Nope. A simple written mess. Now, with the VORTX Inc. buying out the previous owners mid 2010, its getting worse (if that was even possible, dear lord...). The promised mobile shopping experience in v9, has been replaced with a pay-per month add-on. Even though VORTX wrote in the forums that they ASSURE everyone things will get better and code will be fixed with their take over....alas, nothing but the opposite has happened. Use another ASP.NET product, or use a PHP based cart. Whatever you do....if you want to save yourself from frustration, obtuse support responses, facist forum policies and other nightmares...don't walk away from this cart...RUN! You have been warned."

I have spent hours trying to explain basic problems to them, without getting answers. They have a bunch of programmers answering the support questions and cannot explain things to someone below their level of expertise. If you are not extremely technical, do not purchase this software. I have had to pay thousands of dollars to have someone fix the problems we've experienced with this platform. Also, both at my last company and with my new company, settings in the software periodically revert to the default settings without anyone touching them. The product has enough features that it lets us do a lot of different things should we need to. For example, we can use real time shipping quotes, or switch the system over to a pre-determined flat rate shipping. Setup is relatively easy and performance thus far has been excellent. This is a product we're going to use for as long as we can. They've been receptive to most of the feature requests I've sent in. Support community is excellent. There is a good knowledgebase and an excellent peer forum. Another good quality here is the tech support. I've sent stuff in at 3am and received quick replys. Took about 3 months to work out issues with Chase Paymentech and to establish a few basic reports and exports which it lacked. This winter, we upgraded to ML version 7.x - took more than 3 months and required support from a dedicated programmer and an outside consulting firm. Now, just a few months later, they've advised me they have a major security breach in the software and advise me to upgrade with patch. They won't provide any support to help integrate this fix, and directed me back to an oustide developer - probably looking at several thousand dollars. I don’t want this review to sound like a sales pitch, but ASPDOTNETSTOREFRONT is by far a great example of a robust and highly extensible application. XML / C# / VB.NET / ASP.NET 2.0 / SQL 2005 (to name a few) are some of the up-to-date technologies that are being utilized to render the apps strong performance and robustness. Compared to other storefronts on the market, you will be hard pressed to find such a full-featured app at a great price with no monthly fees. Fully and infinitely customizable aspects of this ASP.NET application (in both C# and VB.NET) gives you complete control either directly through the source code, or through the admin control panel. While there is room for growth and development, you never feel as though the software has reached a plateau. The development team continually rises to the challenge of delivering new versions, builds, add-ons and enhancements on a very regular basis…not just access to BETA software but ALPHA builds for you to familiarize yourself with before the app is launched as well. Community supported forums always turns the gears in continued development and discussion at all levels of the storefront. Just my 2 cents. 5/5"

"We've made tons of money using this applications. Having used several other carts and systems, ASPDotNetStoreFront is by far the best. We started selling on the Internet in 1999 and struggled through the early shopping cart, security certificate, back-end systems troubles on our own. We then tried a few other systems and had little success. Finally we got on to a winning system in 2004 with ASPDotNetStorFront. Most shopping carts will build a store for you. But other systems don't take into account Internet marketing, email marketing, mailing list management, search engine optimization, bulk discounts, customer rewards, and much more, but all of this is included for FREE with ASPDotNetStoreFront. Our search engine rankings have skyrocketed along with our profits. Top notch support, too many features to mention and a truly responsive staff all make ASPDotNetStoreFront a winner. If you want a system that will MAKE YOU MONEY, ASPDotNetStoreFront is THE BEST."

"This is an awesome product which keeps getting better and better. I have plenty of friends with e-commerce sites that paid anywhere from double to triple of what I have and do not have half of the features or one quarter of the service. I strongly recommend this to anyone interested in setting up an e-commerce site!"

"This is the best shopping cart on the market. After reviewing a dozen products, we found products in the $15,000+ range that didn't do half of what ASP.net Storefront does. Their support, customization and assistance has made all the difference in the world. We're very sorry if competitors knock it down, maybe if they just improved their software they wouldn't have to do such things! Remember, no storefront package is out of the box for any business. Every package needs customization and setup. ASP.net worked with us night and day to be sure that the implementation was smooth. Many thanks from www.edhardyshop.com!"

"For the naysayers out there, get real! This is one of the best tools on the market and you get the source code to boot! I am but a small biz man, know enough SQL to be dangerous, with ASPDNSF, I am safe as I dont need to know how to code! It is all done for me by Rob and the Boys there! Try having the 'others' listen to your needs and then put revisions out to give YOU what you want! WON'T HAPPEN! I have been there. Great tools, great app, you cant go wrong!"

"We moved our web store from another shopping cart to ASPDotNetStoreFront about Aug ‘05. We considered this dissension long and hard before going through the pain of moving our 6K item store to a new shopping cart package, but after making the move we have found the decision to be one of the best moves we ever have made. From my experience this is the most customizable package, on both the front and back end, of any cart available with out spending thousands of dollars. The support for both standard and custom futures is excellent. Google also seems to love the site maps. Just the increase in Google indexed traffic has more than paid for the license. We are currently using version ML 5.9 To it live go to wescotools.com "

"ASPDNSF is by far the best shopping cart I've ever seen. Those of you saying negative words about it may not truly understand what ASPDNSF is!!! The best thing about it is EASY TO USE! It offers many useful features a small business needs to do eCommerce online! Through the ADMIN site you can customize your online presence by turn on/off over 300 features without modifying a single line of code. If you only want to sell 5 products, you can buy ASPNDSF standard version. If you have 50,000 products to sell internationally then you should buy ML version. ASPDNSF is the best return on investment."

"Wow, the features for this product are great. it is not the easiest to learn, but for the price and feature set and FULL source code, it saved my ass on a couple projects. I was never stuck, and could always tweak the code to do anything our client, who was VERY picky needed. With other carts I've tried, this would have been several thousands of dollars in mods that I would have had to pay THEM for, instead of paying myself. Thanks ASPDNSF. Keep up the good work."

"After spending $1400 on 'that other cart, which we trashed because it was a bad joke' and demo-ing more than a dozen shopping carts so we didn't make the same mistake twice, we purchased this one. I have to say that if you are looking for a cart that has features which are only available from development companies charging $50,000, this is the one. Built on MS SQL 2005, .net 2.0, using a patent-pending XML/XSL rendering engine, this is state-of-the-art. Source code for VB and C# are included. It has all the features we needed to create an incredible, dynamic and engaging customer-friendly site, including product configurations (kitting) and product 'packs,'built in polls, the ability to allow customers to choose whether to register to checkout, swatch color image changing, photo galleries that your customers can participate in, gift registry, wish list, tell a friend, reviews, subscription based content, and so many more features, some of them absolutely unique. They have gift certificates in beta right now. They are working to complete an integration with an incredible ERP product that allows us small merchants to employ tools and techniquest that the big companies have, to truly compete on a bit better playing field. How many times have you wished you had something better than Quickbooks to run your business? Well, with this cart and that ERP system, you can do it right. This team is always working to create the next great thing, which probably explains why the user guide is not as good as it should be, and they are always juggling to keep up with all the configuration questions and assist with upgrades; everything is always evolving to the highest levels of possibility. If you're looking for a simple, easy to use low-tech cart, you'd better find something else, or be prepared to pay one of the many excellent developers available through this company to do it for you. If you are looking for the best feature-set and most current technology, the ability to totall"

Ecommerce Spot Comments ASPDOTNETSTOREFRONT was taken over by new management in 2010. Still a very powerful product, well suited to asp.net developers. Let's hope the past widely reported support issues are resolved by the new management.
